Some pieces of art may trigger certain feelings and emotions in part due to color. For example, the artist Mark Rothko, often used a specific primary color in his pieces and was able to achieve depths of spiritual insight. He invited his viewers to contemplate their own mortality and reach into their unconscious as they gazed and viewed his pieces. A security guard at the Rothko Nondenominational Temple in Houston said in the 1980’s, “You know, when I got this job, I’ll be honest, I didn’t get any of this stuff. But I got to tell you I’ve seen these things in the morning. I’ve seen them at noon. I’ve seen them at night. And now I think they are the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.” This guard's spirit was touched with color and the changes in different light.
