Yes, there are lots of different types of feelings, but you can usually group them into 3 buckets; positive, negative, and neutral. Positive feelings are the ones that feel good – like being happy, or sensing joy, or being wrapped in the warmth of safety and comfort. Positive feelings are the sensations that helps create the experience of love and support.
Negative feelings are those that come with a experiences associated with sadness, despair, anger, repulsion –sensations of being uneasy, frustrated, stuck, or anxious.
Neutral feelings are ones that don’t have a pull on us, one way or the other.
So how do these feelings help us navigate our life? Well, if you notice you consistently have a feeling of dread, sadness, anger, or anxiety about something, your compass is alerting you to STOP! Sometimes you still have to do the task or activity that is creating your negative feeling (like take a test, do a job interview, go to work, etc.) but the feeling is a type of a warning light - kind of like your car engine warning light, letting you know to take another look at the situation.
When you pay attention to what is associated with feelings of joy and happiness, your internal compass is letting you know THIS is nice, and if it is really intense, it may be telling your "pay attention to this! It is important"! When (and if) those positive feelings are lengthy as well as intense (like a passion), your feelings are telling you this is part of your life purpose.
Be aware that your feelings are different from your thoughts. Thoughts are a mental activity and can be changed, modified, ignored, and can be refocused. Feelings are just there. Feelings just happen. They aren’t controlled. You can control your reaction and response to the feeling, but the feeling is still there. HOW you respond to the feeling is a mental activity.
Paying attention to your feelings and interpreting what that feeling means to you, is the best way to improve how you navigate your life. Your feelings are always with you, and it is one way your energetic self, or your SOUL,communicates with you. So, pay attention to your feelings. They are your internal compass to help you in your entire life journey.
